Paranoid election signs attack Liberals, NDP and Mainstream Media

Canadians are faced with two stark options in this federal election, according to new election signs spotted north of Edmonton in the federal riding of Parkland-Sturgeon River. Either we can a) help destroy Canada and Alberta by voting for the Liberals and New Democratic Party on October 19 or b) destroy the Mainstream Media. The presence of the “or” in the message suggests that we can only choose one of the two options.

I am assuming that the sign-maker(s) will be voting for their local Conservative Party candidate in this election because these two options offered on the sign closely mirror two narratives dogmatically propagated by some Conservative Party supporters in this election and during that party’s ten years as government in Ottawa. The first being that Canada will become a jobless post-apocalyptic wasteland if Canadian voters exercise their constitutional right to elect representatives other than Conservatives, and the second that the Mainstream Media is part of some large-scale conspiracy to undermine Stephen Harper.

It is unclear who created and placed the large signs, which sit along Highway 2 north of the City of St. Albert and almost certainly violate the Canada Elections Act third-party advertising laws, but it is clear these individuals have an incredibly skewed view of how democracy and freedom of the press works in Canada and might also suffer from some serious political paranoia.

Only the most rabidly right-wing HarperCon would label the monopolistic, oligarchical, corporatist mainstream media “anti-Harper”. The MSM are owned, by and large, by a few huge corporations, like Postmedia, Bell Globemedia and Rogers, with the sole major exception being the taxpayer-undersupported CBC. Then, when you look at the Holy Mother Corp, you see a proliferation of conservative commentators like Andrew Coyne and Bruce Anderson.

Paranoia doesn’t begin to describe this.

Unfortunately I’ve been seeing a lot of similar signage down east. Combined with a few folks I know being turned away at the advance polls for not having multiple pieces of ID (despite Elections Canada indicating that a driver’s license with photo is adequate), I’m very concerned about how the election will turn out.

I live north of Toronto and can not understand why our friends on the east and west coast would vote Liberal. The provincial Liberals have gutted Ontario’s Economy and Trudeau has promised to take your taxes and spend billions on Toronto and to borrow billions more to spend on Toronto. I feel as Canadians we should all be equal and I am sure many other cities need help , sadly Toronto controls the vote and is full self serving city idiots and Mulcair , well he is a lawyer don’t trust him . remember Bob Rae and look at Alberta now. Better the devil you know, these two will make Harper look like a super hero, can you imagine Trudeau standing on the world stage putting Putin in his place he would likely give him a few billion as well

Low intelligence has been linked with right winged beliefs, paranoia, and prejudice. Sad to see so much in Canada these days. But not surprised to see this pop up in Alberta.

theres some people i know who buy every pos that comes out of harpers mouth..most are religious or just don’t have the brains to think for themselves…ones even afraid of a majority government…how does that make any sense???

This is the same deliberately tea-backwards (‘Orwellian’) nonsense that USA’s media carpetbombs. The current generation of the USA’s Ministry of Truth and Information was born in the 1980s.

These election signs are a crock of garbage. Rather, they should talk about the many very costly boondoggles that the Alberta PC’s were responsible for over many, many years. They should take a look in the mirror and ask themselves why they are such hypocrites and allowed a very corrupt government to run rampant for as long as it has in Alberta. If someone presented these ill informed people the cold hard facts, they still wouldn’t accept it. How much has electricity deregulation in Alberta cost us? There are many more where that came from. The truth hurts and certain people can’t take it. This is so very pathetic.
