Premier Harry Strom delivered this New Year’s message to Albertans in the closing days of 1968.
Just slightly more than two weeks earlier, Strom had been chosen to replace long-time Premier Ernest Manning to lead Alberta’s Social Credit Party. The Socreds had governed Alberta since 1935 and Strom would lead the party to a major electoral defeat a few years later in 1971.
Strom served as the MLA for Cypress from 1955 to 1975 and as Minister of Agriculture from 1962 to 1968 and Leader of the Official
Opposition from 1971 to 1972.

A friend of mine Jack Flaherty worked for Harry Strom, back when Strom was Premier. He always had good things to say about Strom.
