Seven candidates announced running in Ward 12 by-election, now set for Feb. 22, 2016

Edmonton City Council confirmed today that the Ward 12 by-election to replace former councillor Amarjeet Sohi will be held on Feb. 22, 2016.

Candidates must submit their nomination papers in the Heritage Room at City Hall on Monday, January 25, 2016 between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. More information can be found on the City of Edmonton’s Elections webpage.

Since my last update, there are now at least seven candidates who have publicly declared their intentions to run in the Ward 12 by-election:

Ralph McLean, the recent federal Green candidate for Mill Woods has declared:

Raja Abbas, who ran for Ward 12 in the last general municipal election has told many folks he is running again.

Brian Henderson, a CUPW member and EDLC executive board member is said to be considering a run.

The Catholic Trustee for Mill Woods, Laura Thibert, is also said to be running, although it appears she has nothing official yet.

Looks like it is going to be a busy race. The problem is that I know very few of these individuals and have no idea if they even know the issues in Ward 12. It is going to be interesting.
