ted morton resigns from pc cabinet.

And the scoop goes to Josh Wingrove from the Globe and Mail:

Alberta Finance Minister Ted Morton has resigned from cabinet, two days after first planning to do so and after reluctantly agreeing to support a large deficit budget.

A source tells The Globe and Mail Mr. Morton resigned on Thursday, but remains in the Progressive Conservative caucus.

Premier Ed Stelmach has called a press conference in Calgary for Thursday afternoon, where he’s expected to confirm the move.

Premier Stelmach’s joint press conference with soon-to-be-announced-former Minister Morton is also expected to reveal that Treasury Board President Lloyd Snelgrove will take over as Finance Minister.

We can now confidently say that the race to become the next leader of Alberta’s PC Party has begun.

I hear Edmonton-Leduc MP James Rajotte is getting a lot of pressure to run from a lot of federal MPs and other Tories who think he should have been added to the federal cabinet a long time ago.
