“Last year alone, Calgary’s streets were flooded with people of wrong sexual preferences during a homosexual parade of over 30,000 attendees and none of them were embarrassed the slightest to publicly even present their nakedness in front of families and in front of future generations to openly proclaim and manifest that they are not ashamed to declare the name of their master (Satan) and in the same way not concerned with provoking greatly the wrath of the Living God.”
The quote above was taken from an article on MarchForJesus.ca, which has been circulating on social media this weekend. The article also features a photo of Calgary MLA and Progressive Conservative leadership candidate Ric McIver as the parade marshal for the group’s 2013 event. Mr. McIver tweeted a photo while attending this year’s march in Calgary on Sunday, June 15.
The website also features endorsements of the event by Christian Heritage Party of Canada leader David Reimer and perennial social conservative fringe candidate Larry Heather.
Street Church, one of the organizations behind the annual March for Jesus, features a photo of Justice Minister Jonathan Denis on their website as a supporter of the event.
UPDATE: On his Facebook Page, Mr. McIver has responded to the backlash caused by his participation in the March for Jesus event.
“I deplore discrimination against all groups and individuals without exception,” wrote Mr. McIver. “I shall continue to attend events celebrating the diversity of Alberta.”
“I hope this statement clears up any doubts about my commitment to the rights and freedoms of all Albertans, in the past, in the present and in my intentions for the future,” he wrote.
It’s as clear as mud, Mr. McIver.

May the Lake of Fire drown this hateful individual in his own bile. Stand up Alberta; you are far greater than this
You know what, this is getting exhausting. Ric McIver, believe whatever the hell you want, but may I polititely suggest that if you want to demonstrate to people you have some kind of faculty for critical thinking, you may want to actually base you beliefs on some shred of truth or facts. If you want to be a leader of people, perhaps you should show some good faith and actually get to know them, including the ones you don’t immediately relate to or understand. This would demonstrate something known as ‘courage’. And If you did, you may find it harder to stand aside (let alone participate) while others attack them. You may even find yourself inspired to stand up for them as you would your friend or neighbour. Ric McIver, you didn’t utter this quote, but your proud attendance and position as ceremonial leader of this parade and event, you are more or less endorsing it, and I think you knew darn well whose these people are and what they stand for. You can believe whatever the hell you want, you can even become premier for all I care, but here’s MY belief: you are a moron, and a coward.
Not surprisingly, Jonathan Denis is hanging out with this crowd. This is hugely problematic for me, as he’s the justice minister. What kind of fairness and objectivity can we expect from a Justice Minister that subscribes to these views? All the rumour I’ve heard about Denis aside, this alone should disqualify him from serving even one more day as justice minister and potentially MLA… The PC party is more of a lake of fire party than Wildrose it seems, who’ve kicked these nutters (Craig Chandler) out. Now it seems the PCs have absorbed them all (will take what they can get) and are the new hate monger party of choice. Wildrose, meanwhile, is attending pride events and presenting urban policy. Looks like the tables have turned.
So because someone’s in a photo with someone they agree with their views? Common Jerry, you’re reaching further than a basketball player.
The LBGT issue is starting to take on the air of a Stalinist purge. Don’t want to appear at a pride rally. Then you must be a hateful individual unfit for public office.
On the global stage LBGT rights are being used as a beating stick to extend imperial hegemony. The EU corporatists have embraced the LGBT banner in their efforts to wedge control of Europe’s economy from elected politicians into the hands of a few bureaucrats in Brussels. To oppose this means you are wanting to return to a dark past.
You’ll hear lots of LBGT rights in Russia. But you’ll never hear about it in Saudi Arabia. For that matter I wonder if we’ll ever hear about any “lake of fire” sermons in Alberta’s mosques.
This is why Alberta needs to turn to the Liberal Party of Alberta. A red wave is the only thing that can rebalance alberta on a moderate, steady fiscal path. Some of you who keep burning the Liberals are playing a part in killing choice for chose who need place to take their vote, and in fact are taking part, knowingly or unknowingly to continue the masses’ entrenched stagnation to the static political culture we have today. Bloggers, pundits, voters and many others need to embrace a paradigm shift, rather than the continual fulfilment of self fulfilling prophecies. If we all keep preaching and energizing the same path
every 4 years, we are all playing a part in the continuance of this seemingly never ending cycle. It truly requires a leap of faith and paradigm shift to believe in the possibility of something better to hope for. A collective lack of faith and apathy only keeps giving back the thing we wish we did not have. We need to look at ourselves first as a people before we criticize the fickle, unethical politicians we keep voting into office. What have YOU done to change things for the better? You can start by changing your vote.
Well.
McIver just sold the PC party a couple thousand memberships. They’re not going to vote for him, though.
Whomever buys a membership in the PCs over something like this really ought to buy a membership in another party. Like the Liberals. Or Greens. Or NDP. Or Communists. Anything but PC or Wildrose.
Vincent
What’s cowardly is calling someone a moron on the internet, instead of to their face. What’s alarming is that one would be so quick to judge. Those who can calm down long enough to empathize may or may not recognize that Mr. McIver is not a perfect person and he doesn’t require everyone else to be either.
Jerry,
Wildrose never kicked me out. It is unfortunate that you have to spread misinformation to try to strengthen your argument.
I pray Mr. McIver has an answer for Matthew 10:33.

Minister Denis, you got some ‘splaining to do.
So he replied to a letter someone wrote to him. How’s that need “‘splaining”, Jeff? That’s an MLA’s job, to represent people of all backgrounds. Seems like you’re the intolerant one.
