I found Harvey Locke to be a bit annoying in that video and I can't see him connecting with voters. He seems to have a strong background but in a tough riding like this the Liberals need someone who can better engage with voters. I would have to see more about him but I think Steve Turmer could be a smart pick if he is in fact more so a Progressive Conservative red Tory. The LPC needs to be a big tent party and has to appeal to more centre-right people again. The party needs to know the demographics of constituents in ridings when picking candidates, we know this is a conservative riding made up of younger people. With Joan Crockatt being elected the CPC candidate tonight this gives the LPC a good opportunity to elected a more centre-right candidate who will appeal to the constituents who may be turned off by the more right-wing Crockatt.

Liberals need to try and do well in every riding, in Calgary Centre they should try and unite Greens, Dippers, Red Tories and Liberals under their candidate. One mistake they made IMO is waiting so long to nominate someone. They could have had a candidate door knocking this summer, which could make a big difference come election day. The party made the same mistake in Toronto Danforth.

I am not sure why you continue to write that the PGIB is a "socially conservative" organization?

I am a So-Con, but, PGIB is not by any means. Jon Lord sure as heck is no social conservative either. I wish he was.

I gotta agree with Corey on his comments regarding David Swann. I think that was wishful thinking by Mr. Climenhaga. David has always embodied integrity in his actions and I think everyone, including the federal NDP, would have been surprised to see him running for the NDP. But that's just my view from the outside, and from what I have seen from the consistently honourable actions of Mr. Swann.

I hope the NDP are able to secure a respectable candidate and have a 2nd place showing. It would be great for the party to show that the NDP are still the alternative government, in all parts of this country.

It could take a lot of work to secure 2nd place, hopefully Mulcair and his team realize the value to such a showing.

Had the pleasure of working with Rick Billington on the PC election campaign and found him to be very sharp. Fun fact: he is not just a "long serving director" of the prime minister's very own riding association in neighbouring Calgary Southwest but six-time Master of Ceremonies of the PM's annual Stampede barbecue.

He'll make a great MP.

There is no way that anybody who knows David Swann would possibly have thought for a minute he was ever eying the NDP nomination.

That was a wish by David Climenhaga and he never suggested otherwise in the linked article. It is baseless to say otherwise and does a disservice to a committed and sincere public servant.
